Hi there, friendly Bay area people!
My husband and I are coming out that way 1st weekend in Feb. I have a friend who said the Pacific Coast Trail runs thing is a nice thing to do - so I thought I would ask if anyone here has done the one coming up (Woodside)?
How far away is that from the city centre?
What do you expect for weather?
Looking forward to it!

Re: Pacific Coast Trails
Wed, January 17, 2007 - 6:44 AMI've only participated in one of their events, but have a friend who does them all the time and loves them. The only one I did was when I helped that friend run sweep for a 50k, and we had a great time.
They're well-organized and low-key. Generally all of them allow you to run various distances, and the routes often have spectacular views and very pretty trails. At least on the run I did, the folks we met were all incredibly helpful and friendly.
Woodside is about a half-hour south of San Francisco.
It could rain, so be prepared for that, but it probably won't. Also, it can be cold (well, what we folks here in the SF bay area consider to be cold, at least :^) In other words, if you're a bit of a wimp like I am, you might want tights, a long-sleeved jersey and maybe gloves. Or the weather could be beautiful and you can do it in shorts and a singlet.
Have fun in the bay area!

Re: Pacific Coast Trails
Thu, January 18, 2007 - 9:38 PMI did one of their runs for the first time 2 days before Christmas. I was so shocked to see how many people showed up (maybe 200 or so). Everyone was super nice and not competitive. The trails were well marked, and it was organized. It was a really challenging run, but they know how to select beautiful routes that make it so worth it. I did the 20k and hope to do a 50k with them at some point. Good luck on the run. I may do it as well. -

Re: Pacific Coast Trails
Sun, February 11, 2007 - 12:24 PMSorry I missed this post. I've done a pc trail run on this course.
I loved the food at the air stations they have everything from pop tarts to PB&J sandwiches and M&M's to boiled potatoes pretzels, salt and the list goes on.
The course was hilly for me. Actually it felt like one long 22 miles undulating steep hill, but from what I hear this is the flattest course!
Heavy foliage blocks the sun on all of the course except for a total of about ten minutes. Dress for weather colder than you would think because the heavy forest will keep things cool.
I didn't do it 1st week of feb but I will do it again,. -

Re: Pacific Coast Trails
Sun, February 11, 2007 - 2:24 PMIt was a tough, tough course - we felt like we'd been worked over with baseball bats for a couple of days when we finished. But it was really fun and I'd totally do it again! Very hilly, but extremely gorgeous.
We had a good day, weather-wise: perfect temp, but no sun - as Malik points out.
And they got huge bonus points from me for having gummy bears and pop tarts at the aid station.

Re: Pacific Coast Trails
Fri, January 19, 2007 - 6:25 PMI did three of their 50Ks in 2006, and they were all great. Wendell and Sarah, the owners of the company, are very cool and supportive. Their courses are well-marked (pay attention to the website and pre-race briefing to make sure you understand the system; once you have it down, it works perfectly), and their aid stations are well-stocked with all manner of good stuff. Enjoy!
